We’ve gone vegan for good!

Posted - 1st April 2020

Clive’s, the much-loved vegetarian pie-maker has today revealed that their entire range is now fully plant-based. It was a small change for the bakery to make, updating just one last recipe to make all products they produce 100% vegan, but it has already had some big changes for the Devon based baker.

In November of last year, Clive’s secured a deal with supermarket giant Morrison’s to supply vegan pies to 350 of their stores across the country. Their plant-based pies, tarts and nut roast are also very popular amongst retailers like Waitrose, Holland & Barrett, Ocado and Abel & Cole, who have all seen a huge spike in the number of customers wanting easy, organic, vegan options. Clive’s are still the favourite pie choice for most independent health food shops who stock the widest range of Clive’s on offer. In just the last decade, the number of people identifying as vegan has increased by 350% making it one of the fastest growing markets in the food industry.

Owner of Clive’s Sally Carson said, “This is a really exciting time for us. We’d been wanting to make the change for a while, and now that we’ve done it – it feels amazing. I went vegan myself over three years ago and it just felt like the next logical step for the business. We’ll still be small-batch baking using organic, sustainably sourced ingredients, but now customers can tuck in knowing everything is purely plants.”

The next big change for the Devon-based bakers, will be moving from their old bakery in Buckfastleigh to new larger premises in Dartmouth. Clive’s has been baking from the 6,000sqft bakery based in an old woollen mill since they first started over 30 years ago, so the new purpose-built factory marks a real milestone for the business.

Clive’s Director Esther Pearson, who is also vegan, said, “We’ve been hard at work updating our recipes, and refreshing our packaging to re-launch our now totally plant-based range. As always, we’ve done everything with care and consideration for the planet to give people all of the taste and none of the waste. Our packaging is still minimal, recyclable and compostable and we’re committed to our organic GMO & pesticide free ingredients. We can’t wait to get into the new bakery in June and continue to do what we do best – baking delicious pies!”

The full Clive’s range now consists of sixteen 100% plant-based products including favourites such as the Creamy Mushroom, Arabian Chickpea and Saag Aloo pies, Tomato & Olive and Lentil & Kale tarts and their classic vegan nut roast. They also provide multiple options for gluten-free eaters too. For more information please email hello@clivespies.co.uk
