Yes, that’s right, we’re on the lookout for amazing people to come and work at our vegan bakery based in Dartmouth. We’re recruiting for several new job roles locally to help the company meet the growing demand for our popular plant-based bakes. It’s a very exciting time to join Clive’s as plant-based eating habits continue to rise and we just secured investment from Veg Capital, a high-profile investment fund headed up by Matthew Glover, the Co-Founder of the global movement Veganuary.
Wondering how it all started? Well, Clive’s was founded in 1986 by Devonshire foodie Clive Lowe, who began selling the bakery’s signature ‘Creamy Mushroom Pie’ from the back of his bicycle. Since then, the company has grown to a 30+ strong team and is selling to major retailers such as Waitrose, Morrisons, Abel & Cole and Ocado, as well as numerous independent health food shops up and down the country. We provides year-round jobs and are super proud of being a Real Living Wage employer, which means we pay a minimum of £9.50 per hour (and you get a free pie for lunch!)
As part of our autumn recruitment, we’re on the hunt for bakery and kitchen assistants, a baker and a production chef. We spoke to a few of our talented team members to find out more about what they think about working here.
Lin Riseley from Dartmouth works as a Bakery Assistant: Lin said, “My role at Clive’s is totally different to anything I’ve done before, and I love it. The hours are good, the people are great and I like how much variety there is day-to-day. In the time that I’ve been here I’ve learnt so much and really feel like I’ve progressed.”
Harry Marshall, who’s vegetarian and works as a Kitchen Assistant said, “Working at Clive’s has enabled me to grow in an area I’m really interested in. The bit I love most about my job is helping to create new products, like developing the seitan that goes in our recently launch puff pie range.”
In 2020 we extensively renovated the old smokehouse on Nelson Road industrial estate, Dartmouth, which is four times the size of our previous home in Buckfastleigh, and at the time brought new jobs to the area.
Managing Direction Esther Pearson said, ‘We have such a talented, friendly and passionate team working with us and I’m so excited that we’re now in a position to expand. It’s a really exciting time to join the Clive’s family and more widely a great time to be working in Devon’s food industry, which continues to go from strength to strength.”
